Trifles - A One Act Play by Susan Glaspell

Rose Island Playhouse is thrilled to have Jade Rianna Rabell-Stowe direct Susan Glaspell’s 1916 one-act play Trifles. A taut murder mystery in which two women uncover the motive for a farmer's strangling while their arrogant husbands conduct an official investigation, ultimately choosing empathy and sisterhood over the law. Based on a real December murder case of 59 year-old Iowa farmer John Hossack from 1901, Susan Glaspell was a journalist covering the original case. Compelled by the story underneath the evidence, Glaspell wrote Trifles. In a time when women were often dismissed and underestimated for their trifles, while the men look for evidence, the women discover the truth.
